The Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Natatorium and Ice Rink (2008), designed by Handel Architects, is an 110,000- square-foot facility housing an Olympic-sized pool and an NHL-standard rink.
Located inside the historic Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, site of the world’s fair in 1939 and 1964, is the first indoor public pool to open in New York City in four decades.
Initially, the building was intended to serve as the venue for water polo events for the 2012 Olympics, but when that bid was lost to London, the City proceeded to build the pool, anyway.
