George Totten designed this Beaux Arts mansion in 1922 for Mary Henderson as a memorial to her son and a residence for the VP of the U.S. Her husband introduced the 13th amendment that abolished slavery. Spain purchased the mansion in 1927 as the residence of the Ambassador until late 1990s, when the Spain-USA Foundation took stewardship.
